Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface after March of the previous year.
Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 victories at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.
But the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.
He fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent defended four early-game chances in a competitive third set before the Russian broke to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
